April Accomplishments

Good day, everyone!

I am pleased to announce Wings and Whispers: Tales of Friendship Volume 1 recently participated in a worldwide competition. With that being said, I learned my book earned a Finalist Award in the American Writing Awards gave me this seal below.

Hard to believe I earned a finalist award! My book hadn’t been out for a month. Woah. Completely mind-blown. So, let me kind of explain some amazing stuff that has been happening since my book was released…I got featured in various blogs, earned a new award, and got featured on a local news channel in Saint Louis, Missouri!

The news channel was an NBC News Affiliate, KSDK: 5 On Your Side. Two days after my thirtieth birthday was a dream come true. I got to be featured on a wonderful television channel. The crew members were a delight to be with. Travis Cummings with Mecedes Mackay, and Tracy Hinson Frank!

Finalist from the Ficton-General section on the American Writer's Awards

Fun fact: I met Tracy in 2020, and we became great friends through the pandemic. She even featured me on the news for the illustration of her card. I had a blast making it, too! It was a sheer delight to be hand-picked and make this beautiful art piece for her. Where am I going with this? The backstory behind this is…Tracy, who is pictured next to me, was willing to keep in contact. Fast forward to 2025, she (Tracy) texted me on March 22, 2025, the day after my birthday, inviting me into the KSDK Studio in Downtown, Saint Louis, Missouri. Being on television, there are so many emotions that ran through my head…But, I said the sky’s the limit. You can do this. I managed to not say, “um” and stuff like that. I allowed the nerves not to get the best of me. If I can do anything out of my comfort zone, despite having disabilities, you can do it too. Everyone has a reason to be on this earth, following their passion.

Now, my book has officially surpassed a month entirely, and that means…I have hit a couple accomplishments and milestones! I earned an award, got a spotlight on TV, and there will be plenty more to come. It is never to too late to follow your dream. More recently, I got invited to discuss my book to multiple classes, and even an entire school!

ME? Yes, that’s right, I drove two hours away from my hometown to speak with a high school. Only Kaelen Felix would have the tenacity to be able to do it. Finally, the message I leave you with is…thank you for being a part of my journey. Perhaps, next time…I will go in-depth about the hurdles that came my way. I wasn’t normal, perfect, but those beautiful imperfections make me who I am TODAY.

Love, Kaelen
